From plans to reality – We have started our on-site activities in Harjavalta

Bioreactors are arriving to Harjavalta biometnanation plant

We got a great start for the year 2024! In week one, we started our on-site activities in Harjavalta. Last week we started to deliver and install bioreactor modules to the site. So once again I am thrilled to share with you one new milestone in the path toward Finland’s first synthetic methane production plant.

In the first few weeks, our focus was on the basis – building maintenance structures and racks. These steps laid the foundation for the arrival of the bioreactors to the facility, the heart of sustainable methane production.

Speaking of bioreactors, it brings me joy to advertise the change to peek in our production facility in Kaarina. The team Q Power did a great job, and just before Christmas, we proudly announced the completion of all 42 bioreactor modules. And of course, we offer you the opportunity to see how it is done, so here is a link to the video. Now these significant steps towards the completion of the facility are quite frequent. Of course, it is much nicer to share pictures of bioreactors and the hustle and bustle of work, than of engineers at their desks, even though many planning tasks have been ongoing since the beginning of the project.

The excitement of creating a new energy industry

As an engineer, building a completely new production plant is a rare treat. While many engineers often find themselves involved in expansions or improvements of existing facilities, building a new facility and even a new industry in hydrogen economy and e-fuels adds unique excitement to the journey. Over time, eFuel plants are built regularly, and every new stage is no longer newsworthy. However, I sincerely hope that we never lose the spark that comes when we start a new project, explore new technologies, and create things together with our customers. It’s never just about building a facility; it’s about shaping the future and promoting a sustainable energy landscape, plant by plant.

I know I’ve mentioned this many times before. Still, it’s worth noting that this project has an extra meaning because it’s not only Finland’s first methanation plant but P2X Solutions’ opening to the Finnish hydrogen economy together with the country’s first hydrogen plant. Together, we pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this journey, one step at a time.
