This summer, the European Commission recognized Q Power for a project submission of outstanding quality in the highly competitive EIC Accelerator Pilot, a part of the Horizon 2020 program. Over 2000 European submissions were received, of which the Commission regarded the Q Power proposal to have been among the highest of quality.
“We are of course very happy with the recognition from the proposal reviewers. Excellent quality in all operations is of paramount importance to Q Power, and distinction by the commission is a signal of the great work done by the Q Power team. Our advanced methanation solution is ready for the market, which we have clearly communicated to the reviewers”, Q Power CEO Eero Paunonen comments.
Proposals for the EIC Accelerator Pilot were reviewed by an international panel, consisting of energy sector experts, investors and entrepreneurs.
Q Power is a developer of technologies and solutions for the production of synthetic fuels. Transitioning to a fossil-free energy system requires scalable solutions for storing renewable energy. In many sectors of society, replacing fossil fuels with mere electrificiation is highly difficult or impossible, which is why a fast ramp-up of synthetic, emission-free hydrocarbon production is needed.
“Methane is the simplest hydrocarbon molecule. It is also the starting point for refining many other hydrocarbons. The demand for synthetic methane will grow rapidly in the next few years, as emissions reductions targets are increasingly implemented”, Q Power director of R&D AnniAlitalo forecasts.
The Q Power methanation process uses hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide as feedstocks. The patented process operates at a moderate temperature and normal pressure, and with an exceptional efficiency of 83 %.
“Our technology is ready for delivery, and we can currently promise customers delivery of a first methanation unit 12 weeks after an order is placed”, technical director Marko Niskanen continues.
